Publishing - Digital Communication
You are a publisher.
You might not think of yourself as a publisher, but assuming that you either write the occasional email, WhatsApp message, have posted occasionally on social media, or any kind of digital communication you are indeed a publisher.
What you publish is, visibly public or non-public and intended for different groups of people.
Another aspect when you publish is whether it is active or passive.

Active
With active publishing your communication alerts, or is intended to alert, specific people or persons. Email, classic messaging systems are active publishing methods.Passive
Passive publishing does not, by intention, push to specific people. Tweets which do not mention another user are passive updates. This blog post is passive. Even if you don't blog you have interesting options for passive publishing.
Active and passive can be combined, where the communication is widely visible, but actively pushed towards only a specific person.
Even if you have only ever "published" in a limited visibility fashion and have never published in the classic sense, it is worth viewing yourself as a publisher when thinking about what you do on social media.
What do you want to say; to whom? Should it be widely visible?
