How to see what ads a brand runs on social media

You'll be used to seeing Ads in your social media feeds. You SEE ads because you are being targeted.

The nature of targeting means you do NOT see ads that are targeted at others, you don't see ALL the ads being run by advertisers who's ad you did see.

Off the back of scandals such as Cambridge Analytica and and voter influencing there has been a push for more transparency. If you want to see what ads any advertiser is running it has recently become easier to do so.

I've posted before in Social Know How about Twitter Ads and Facebook Ads, but thought it worth pulling that information together in a post here. Especially as the recent improvements Facebook in particular has made make it possible to see ads running on Facebook's other owned properties such as Instagram, Messenger and their off-Facebook, in-app advertising network for mobile apps.

Why would I be interested in viewing Ads?

You might not, that's fine. The average user may not care, but for people in the communication or advertising industry who need a better understanding of the marketplace, or social media users with a healthy desire to understand how their eyeballs are bought and sold this small improvement in transparency is a good thing.
